The Malaysian Sonographers Association (MASA) was established in 2015 with one clear
purpose: to provide Malaysia's sonographers with a professional home, a
unified voice, and a future that reflects the true value of their work.
The Unseen Backbone of Diagnostic Medicine
Sonographers are the unseen backbone of diagnostic medicine.
Every day, in hospitals and clinics across Malaysia, sonographers perform highly skilled examinations that guide life-changing clinical decisions. Yet the profession has long lacked formal regulation, structured development, and strong professional representation.
MASA was founded by a group of passionate sonographers who believed that this had to change.
Over the past decade, we have grown to more than 211 members, delivered multiple webinars and educational events, and built a community that spans general ultrasound, obstetrics, vascular, and small parts ultrasound.
As part of its efforts to achieve recognition for the sonography profession, MASA has been working closely with the Ministry of Health since 2022.
This collaboration began with the meeting for the first Governance Framework for Allied Health Practitioners in Malaysia and has continued through to the final stakeholder consultation on the Governance Framework for Unregulated Allied Health Professions in Malaysia.
Today, we are working toward our most important goal.
To educate the new generation of sonography professionals, to become the recognised regulatory body for sonographers in Malaysia and to make CPD a standard, supported part of every sonographer's career.
